Rural Tours offers special packages to Purushwadi, a village
located close to Igatpuri and about 250 Kms from Mumbai.
The village is located at an altitude of 1000 Mts above
sea level, and the climate is pleasant throughout the
year. The village is rich in folklore and is inhabited
mostly by tribals such as the Bhils, Koli Mahadeos, Warlis

Getting
there:
250 km by road, from both Mumbai and Pune, with national
highways for more than 60% of the journey. Route from
Mumbai: Drive along the Eastern Express Highway to Igatpuri
via the Thane Check Naka. At Igatpuri, turn towards Nasik.
From here on you will pass through Goti-Bhandardara-Rajur-Purushwadi.

Alternatively,
a visitor may also travel by train to Kasara. India Rural
Tours will then make arrangements for travel by Jeep.
Cuisine:
The most accessible aspect of the local culture for you
will be their food. All food is prepared over a traditional
wood fire from organically grown ingredients.
The staple diet here consists of grains such as Rice,
Bajra, Jowar, and Naachni, a red millet very rich in iron
and other vitamins, is used to make papads and rotis.
Varai, a white millet, is also used to make rotis.
Popular local dishes: include Waal ka Varun, Deshi chicken,
Gevada (made with groundnuts), Danda (made from a local
variety of pumpkin), and Vade (a spicy gravy made using
dried channa flour) all served with home-made pickles.
